Royal Court Upstairs
(19th June 01 - 7th July 01)

Written: by Roy Williams
Directed: Indhu Rubasingham
Producer: Royal Court
Synopsis:'Are white girls more sexy than we are, I don't think so. Do they scream more when guys do it to them, I can scream, I can scream loud?' Hanging out in their usual London club Kenny and Ben are eyeing up the young white girls. They challenge each other to make the first move. The problem is that these boys are men, approaching thirty. In the middle of constant talk of girls and marriage an unwelcome reminder of their school days makes them grow up.

This play has received positive notices from the popular press... NICHOLAS DE JONGH for THE EVENING STANDARD says, “In 12 deft scenes and 80 minutes, rich in their astute, comic observing of male pride and performance, Williams shows how the erotic dilemmas of five characters compare, contrast and connect.” JONATHAN MYERSON for THE INDEPENDENT says, “This has the makings of a sharp drama. But the scenes constantly slide into something manageable and as a result nothing memorable emerges. “ CHARLES SPENCER for DAILY TELEGRAPH says, “This rich, if occasionally sentimental and sloppily constructed play, receives a vivid, pacy production from Indhu Rubasingham, with a host of fine performances.” THE SUNDAY TIMES says, "Indhu Rubasingham's direction and the five performances are, like the writing, hard and cool."
